Application of the death penalty in the Eighteenth Century

January 20th 1756
Yesterday the sessions ended at the Old Bailey, when the three following persons received sentence of death. viz. Andrew Brinkworth for forgery, Alexander Thompson for not surrendering himself being declared a bankrupt, and John Boswell,a thieftaker, for robbing Frederick Lenard near Devonshire Square. Twenty eight to be transported, two to be whipped and three branded.
